The Army Fellows Program is a two-year program that provides you the opportunity to embark on a developmental, accelerated career path as an Army civilian employee. Upon successful completion of the program, we will promote you into a permanent position.
Typical entry is at the GS-07 level, with promotion to GS-09 after successful completion of one year and placement into a permanent GS-11 position upon successful completion of the program and recommendation by supervisor. You will receive paid job-related training that may include rotational assignments.

The Army HBCU/MI SPARK – Student Program for Army Research and Knowledge is an undergraduate internship program for full-time HBCU/MI students. The Army HBCU/MI SPARK program provides U.S. undergraduate students in STEM fields with the opportunity to conduct research at an Army laboratory. Under the guidance of government scientists and engineers, students will engage in Army mission-related research projects, including data analysis and systems modeling, during the summer of 2024. The Army HBCU/MI SPARK program offers a 10-week summer research internship which is taking place across the United States. Accepted interns will work directly with a mentor at an Army research facility. The program provides stipends, housing, and some travel funds to accepted interns.

The Department of Defense (DoD) Historically Black Colleges & Universities and Minority Serving Institutions (HBCU/MI) Summer Research Internship Program is supported by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD[R&E]).

The DoD HBCU/MI Summer Research Internship Program is an annual summer research program offered to current students and recent graduates who studied STEM disciplines at HBCUs/MIs. The program provides a bridge between classrooms and real-world experiences and aims to increase the number of minority scientists and engineers who choose careers with the DoD. Interns receive hands-on experience at one of the DoD facilities during their internships and can apply this knowledge to further their career and education goals. These DoD facilities are at the forefront of innovation in STEM.

The DoD relies on a strong, STEM-capable workforce to achieve critical functions of its mission. From discovering emerging technologies to developing the next-generation workforce, DoD depends on brilliant STEM professionals to continue to innovate. The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program is a DoD-funded combined educational and workforce development opportunity for undergraduate and graduate-level students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

In this program, you will serve a 10-week internship each year alongside scientists and engineers at the sponsoring facility; these experiences prepare students for full-time employment and working within the DoD. The program pays your tuition and fees while providing a monthly stipend. After you graduate, you must work for the sponsoring organization in a permanent position.
You may also be eligible for the SMART program if you’re a current DoD employee enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate STEM program.
