The conference provides an opportunity for the Center’s chemical biological experts to present their work to more than 1,500 scientists, program managers and leaders from other government laboratories, private industry and academia.

CBD S&T is the most prominent chemical biological defense conference in the country, with top chemical biological researchers gathered to compare research methods and results, and to identify opportunities to collaborate on new research.

“This year the Center will present more than 40 posters and give 12 oral presentations on a broad range of research topics,” said Adam Seiple, associate director for the CCDC Chemical Biological Center. “This conference is an opportunity for our experts to showcase our ability to perform focused research that puts state-of-the-art chemical and biological defense technology into the hands of our warfighters.”

Jonathan Sampson, a mechanical engineer at the Center, is looking forward to the networking opportunities the conference will provide. “A conference of this magnitude gives us the opportunity to share our current research projects — such as the new integrated respirator system my team at the Center is working on — with our peers,” he said. “We use this opportunity to demonstrate our ability to come up with unique solutions to existing challenges and anticipate emerging challenges. Best of all, networking at events like this can lead to collaborations in new research areas, thereby accelerating innovation.”

Since becoming a part of the Army Futures Command in 2018, the Center has embraced the Command’s mission to deliver what warfighters need, when they need it, in a timely and affordable manner. The Center’s contributions at the conference demonstrate this through its research findings in the areas of detection, protection and threat evaluation methods.

“This conference is about what we are doing to keep warfighters safe,” said Eric Moore, Ph.D., director of the CCDC Chemical Biological Center. “Our near-peer competitors are devoting their time and resources to research and science, which means the threat to our warfighters is always evolving. Much of our research is in response to these threats so we can prevent problems before they happen. We must make sure that our work in the lab keeps up with our warfighters’ needs in the field.”
